We commissioned Fiona Donald from FAB designs to help us renovate our much loved but dated apartment. We live in a residential only community, where there are a lot of caveats procedures and rules that have to be complied with, to ensure residents’ comfort.
From the outset, Fiona and Bek managed these responsively and diligently. The way these were communicated to the team of skilled tradesmen was awesome. The conditions were not just relayed verbally, but posted on walls to remind everybody. There was therefore no conflict with management or fellow residents. We were given timeline of 10 weeks to completion. The project landed, completed to a very high standard, beyond our wildest dreams, and on time.
Design choices were expedited. Fiona and Bek clearly listened closely, and we were skilfully and sensitively guided through the selection process, choosing materials and colours that we loved. They even procured a huge mural I wanted from Sweden, ensuring it was a quality product before we went ahead. There were several meetings with all trades involved present at the same time, ensuring was on the same page.
The demolition phase was clean, tightly organised and quick, leaving virtually a bare shell. It was then I understood, these people consider all possibilities and think outside the box that was left. So, we were able to build a dream kitchen with enormous storage and expansive stone bench tops. Apart from having a beautiful, contemporary space, our comfort and amenity has increased greatly. We now have ducted air, ceiling fans and it is so easy to keep clean it with all the modern materials.
We were never stressed during this process. It was managed with quiet expertise, experience and care for every detail. We are so very delighted with our new home. We confidently recommend FAB designs for any project.

Fiona managed the renovation of my unit at Broadwater Tower in Runaway Bay. This included full renovation of two bathrooms, the walk-in closet and laundry, floor coverings throughout, squaring of archways, redesign of the entrance, removal of ceiling stipple, painting throughout, addition of pelmets and skirting boards and even replacement of the kitchen sink.
The result is breathtaking and has achieved the stylish, coastal look I had envisaged. With Fiona’s vast design experience she helped me refine my renovation vision, while being mindful of my budget. She was always helpful, but never pushy with her ideas. Fiona also had a few tricks for increasing the size of the ensuite which made a big difference to the luxurious result.
Fiona has a team of experts at Fab Design that are a pleasure to deal with. In addition, Fab Design works closely with a group of tradies with whom they have an awesome professional relationship. Fiona’s expectations from her trades are high and they certainly deliver, in my experience.
A detailed job costing was provided upfront with no overruns. The only above budget expenditure was when I asked Fiona to do some extras.
At the beginning of the project, Fiona and Ash took me around to all the suppliers to choose tiles, fixtures and carpet, etc. Although I would have been quite confident doing this by myself, I have to say it was great to have Fiona and Ash’s design input and expertise while making selections. It was also fun!
At the end, everything was left sparkling clean with furniture back in its place. What a joy to walk through the door and relax, rather than clean up dust.
